Summer Colors Tour-Simple Ways To Style Your Home For The Season
Hi there friends! With summer around the corner I thought I would share some easy decorating tips and ideas to get your home ready for the season. This year I joined in on the fun with the Summer Colors Tour hosted by my friend Jennifer. This is a great time of year to create a casual retreat, a place to put your feet up, smell the flowers and take pleasure in being home again. So I crafted spaces within my home that are conducive for enjoying the simple things in life.
This year it’s all about the black and blue. I have to be honest, I gave myself a bit of a challenge. One that wasn’t easy, especially while roaming the isles at Target and Home Goods. After my backyard makeover I told myself that was it, no more spending. I was going to use what I already had and not buy any more. That means no more planters, accessories, plants, throws or pillows, ugh! For my interiors spaces I moved things around, shopped my own house and repurposed my décor. Today I am sharing my den, stair nook, family room and recently updated patio.
Lets start in the den. I kept the color palette simple with blacks and neutrals so I brought in texture through wood accessories, collected items, wicker, beads and knit. I added an organic touch with the framed horse print by Minted.
Chambray and wicker are great textures that always make a space feel like summer. By simply adding it to what you already have it makes a room feel fresh and new.
The blond wood tones keep things feeling light and airy. These wishbone chairs are one of my favorites, they are really comfy too!
When decorating for summer, less can be more. Think of displaying purposeful items like hats, necklaces, handbags, art supplies, fruit and flowers as part of your décor.
I like things to feel clean this time of year, so every spring I go through and declutter. What is left goes into storage that is easy to access, especially for the boys and dog, haha!
Plants make any space come alive so layer them in different pots, at alternating heights with a variety of species. Use tropicals, succulents, herbs, air plants or maybe even cacti. I love to snip off a leave or 2 from my tropicals and place them in a vase. They can last a long time if you keep them hydrated.
This is my nook under the stairs. I used my Lindsay Letters art from my holiday tour and added in highly textured, neutral pillows. All of which I already owned.
Welcome to my family room! My new sectional is coming in a few weeks but for a change I used my white slipcovers on my Ikea sectional. It is a lot of white but it feels crisp, clean and cheerful!
Nothing says summer like shades of blue. If you only make a few changes by adding some of this hue to your space think pillows, handcrafted accessories and artwork. Even adding a vintage oil or abstract painting to a shelf can softly whisper summer.
I have an extensive vase collection. Collections are nice to display together all in one place or to break them up in twos or threes.
This console my nephew built. He did an incredible job, my hope is that it is passed down. It is made with white oak and is just yummy! The lines and hues are so versatile, it can work with any style and season.
The light fixture above is a DIY using a simple basket from Target.
The pillows are from Etsy and Pottery Barn Outlet.
If you are curious about the upkeep with a white sectional read THIS.
The art is a DIY inspired from a block print artist. Don’t be afraid to try new things, it may not look exactly like the original but at the end of the day it’s your creation!
I pretty much repeated the color palette from the den but added blues. You see these hues with neutrals, whites, creams, light wood tones, leather and touches of black.
My patio recently got a makeover and you will not believe the before and afters!!! You can read more HERE.
I kept with the light wood tones again and added indigo with fun, classic patterns.
If you saw the BEFORES of this area you would be in shock that it is the same backyard. It was BAD!!!
The sectional and dining table are from Article, which is one of my favorite online retailer.
The privacy screen makes a huge difference and the string lights give this space so much ambiance.
Adding herbs and plants finishes the space and makes it feel like a little hidden oasis.
These pillows are interior pillows but I made them weather resistant with a very simple step.
This table, oh my gosh!!! Love at first sight!!
And summer wouldn’t be complete without a good, skinny cocktail.
