Modern Coastal Boy’s Bedroom Reveal
Today is the day! I am finally revealing Jack’s Modern Coastal Bedroom, the before & afters and all of the sources! It has been a few months in the making so I am super excited to share this makeover with all of you, mostly because I LOVE how it turned out. Before his space lacked, in every sense of the word. We kept a queen size bed in his room for “company” but rarely used it for such. The walls were blah and it was very uninspiring. As Jack got older I really wanted a space that felt creative and fun. A place he could get away and read or play his Lego’s. I also wanted it to reflect the things he loves, like the ocean and sea creatures, mostly sharks:).
By painting the walls Sherwin Williams Pure White I was able to brighten the space tremendously. As soon as it went on, I knew it was the right call 100%. Then I layered in organic & natural textures, bold navy and touches of black & turquoise. I brought in patterns that complimented each other as I wanted the space to feel simple & clean. I gave Jack a large rustic table with crisp white modern chairs for imaginary play. The art around the room was thoughtfully planned to add a personal touch. The Flokati rug gives a cozy feel underfoot and the bed linens are bold yet modern at the same time. My goal was to give Jack a space he felt happy in and let me tell you, he does!!!
The before, please don’t judge, they are bad…..
The after….
Another before….
And the after…
This is a really bad one but I left it in to give you the perspective…
Ahh, the after….
The dresser is painted Sherwin Williams Naval and the walls are Pure White, you can find the tutorial, along with the hardware HERE.
This modern coastal art is a DIY, it’s super easy and I am also sharing the FREE printable, you can find it HERE.
These bunk beds are incredible! I honestly can’t say enough good things about these beds. I could see 2 of them in a bunk room they are so pretty and understated. They are also so well made! Another thing I like about them is the bottom bunk is low to the floor so that there is so much space in between the beds, which if you have had bunks before then you know how tight this area can be. The lines are modern and there is a subtle lime wash finish on the wood, perfect for a modern-rustic look.
I have always wanted a Moroccan Pouf, this one has a beautifully worn leather.
You can find the easy DIY for these Pottery Barn Knock off signs HERE.
You can also find the tutorial to make your own art from an iPhone picture HERE.
I have had tons of questions about the curtains, let me just say not only do they have a beautiful henna pattern but they are also BLACK OUT lined!!!! Hallelujah! I can’t tell you how many layers I had on the windows before and the sun still woke Jack up. These are also an amazing price and quality.

Have a beautiful day friends,
I love how it turned out! So many great things in here…The colors, the painted dresser, the artwork, the pouf, the curtains…and that adorable shark head! You did an amazing job!

This is the cutest room ever! I’ve been collecting coastal pieces for my little one for a while, (he’s only three) and can’t wait to make his room over in this style. I bet your son is so appreciative of what you’ve done for him! I am! ?
This is too good Jen. I know living rooms/dining rooms/kitchens are always the most popular makeovers but I get the most excited about small bedroom makeovers like this because there is so much that has to be accomplished in tight quarters and you made his room look huge! All your choices are thoughtful and stylish while being completely functional. Love every detail and especially the curtains and the bedside sconce lamps. Brilliant transformation. I’m obsessed.
OMG, thank you Rachel, that makes me soo happy!!! Have a good night, Jen
Jen, Jack’s room looks fantastic! I love the colors and fabrics. You’ve inspired me to finally turn Avarie’s “baby” room into a proper 6 year old space! Goal: June 2016.
Miss you!!
Love, love, love!!!
Fantastic Jen!! Such a perfect space for your little guy – and a room that will definitely grow with him!
It looks so good! I love the wooden destination signs. They’re such a cool touch. I also LOVE the table!!!!
Beautiful! Can you please tell me about the ceiling mounted light fixture? I tried the link in the source list but the link wasn’t working. Thank you so much.
Jen, I LOVE his bedroom and he looks so exited about it too. So restful and perfectly modern coastal. Great job. xx
Can you tell me where the ceiling light is from? I wasn’t able to find a link for the source.
Jen, you did an amazing job like always! I love the white paint and how you styled your little guys bedroom.
I’m sure he loves it!!

So cute! Love the light fixture and the shark’s head on the wall!! Good job on the video, too.
What a fun room! I love the coastal feel without it being too overpowering. The artwork over the dresser is awesome!
I am new to your blog and I LOVE it. The nautical theme was done really well in this room and I’m going to jump on board with everyone else and tell you how much I love the heavy curtains and bamboo blinds! Really cool kids room 🙂 https://reclaimingyourcastle.com/
Thank you so much Sara!
What a handsome room. I’ve been searching for a well made bunk with handsome lines in a nice wood tone. This one is superb! Would love to know the source – could not get the link to work! Wonderful room!
I love the combination of the timber blinds and the curtain rods and curtain combo. It really looks clean and organized. The table is perfectly situated as well with the big window providing illumination for whatever creative activity your boys have in mind. I read from this article https://thediyhomemaker.wordpress.com/2016/04/18/how-to-solve-the-biggest-problems-with-curtain-rods
That it is really advisable to have your curtain rods closer to the ceiling not only for accessibility but for the general appeal of the design. This works well with your windows, clearly in the pictures. A very great and fabulous job on this one.
Beautiful!
Thank you so much!
