Navy Blue Dresser Makeover For Under $50
When I was asked to be a part of Beth’s Thrifty for Under $50 blog hop I was thrilled! Who doesn’t love a good challenge and an excuse to save some money? I know I do! Since I was in the middle of Jack’s Modern Coastal Room Makeover I thought why not paint the dresser I bought for him at a steal and go bold by painting it navy blue.
If you are coming from Nest of Posies, welcome! Let me start by saying I like painting furniture, you can find old pieces anywhere from garage sales & thrift stores to Craigslist for cheap. And usually, they are made way better than new. This one below I found at a yard sale for just $10, the highboy Shane has in his room, also $10. They both were made from the Vermont Maple Furniture Company and still have the original sticker inside {so cool}. They also have all of the SS numbers of everyone in their family written on an inside draw, along with each of their names. I treasure these little bits of history that are left behind with vintage items.
What you will need if you would like to paint a dresser…..
sand paper {I use fine}
sand paper box {it’s just easier}
wood filler {optional, if needed}
tacky cloth
spray cleaner
small paint brush
paint roller
paint- 1 qt {I used Sherwin Williams Emerald in Naval}
new hardware
How to paint your dresser…
1.take all of the hardware off
2.wipe it down with Windex or a spray cleaner
3.once dry sand your piece, rough it up a bit
4.use your tacky cloth to wipe off the remaining dust
5.wipe down again with a wet cloth & let dry
6.roll on your paint, use small brush to get into tight spots
7.repeat 2-3 times
8. let dry over night and put on your hardware.
