Celebrate Summer Home Tour With Simple Coastal Updates
Hi there friends, welcome to part 1 of my summer home tour! I am thrilled to be a part of Julie’s Celebrate Summer House Tour, if you are coming from My Sweet Savannah, so happy to have you here, her home is such a treat! This blog hop has some of my favorite bloggers in it and I have enjoyed touring each home myself, I know you will as well.
I find as I get older I want to simplify, for me summer is a time to kick back and enjoy home for what it is. This year I used what I had and brought in just a few new things, making a conscious effort to say less is more. I reinvented and got creative using pieces in different ways to freshen up my space.
Living coastally & across from the water I like to use a surf & turf color palette, it is easy to live with and brings a certain tranquility to each space. Today I am sharing my dining room and kitchen nook, along with a few rooms I have recently finished.
One of my favorite splurges this season and something I have been dreaming about for a while are these Indigo African Mudcloth pillows. I paired it with a DIY grid pillow for a casual vibe.
My built-ins were made by my brother-in-law, who is an awesome woodworker, when we moved in and the before and afters are pretty amazing. They are incredibly functional especially when we have parties, the first 2 shelves act as a drink station and desert area.
The driftwood was found last year by my boys at the beach, so I wanted to display it to remind me of those special moments with them. The EAT sign is just something that works in the space, plus it gives balance by repeating the gray tone. Most of the dishware is from my mother, it makes me happy to see it every day.
I have to tell you about the Botanical Art, it’s a DIY! It was so simple and cost me {with the frame} just under $20. I was looking at THIS print and thought maybe I could make it myself. Originally I was going to paint something but…..while in the grocery store I picked up a few palm leaves for $2. I then pressed it for a few hours and sprayed adhesive to the back and adhered it to oak tag, that simple. The frame is from Ikea.
My favorite styling book of ALL time, it is so well written. When I have a few minutes before the bus comes I like to flip through it with my afternoon coffee.
The other splurges this time of year are plants. Even if you move things around your home and add a few plants it instantly feels like summer. My go to house plants are succulents, ferns and tropical, these are so easy to care for.
These stools from Target, I debated over after the holidays but ended up caving and buying them, I am so happy I did, we use them everywhere and the texture is just beautiful!
Displaying glassware, drinks and cutting boards keeps this vertical space functional.
I layered my table with texture, height and color for a rustic modern tablescape.
These watercolor place cards I bought off Etsy and I love how they look with any table setting. I can see using these for a fun outdoor dinner party. I grow the mint in my garden and added it to each place setting for a nice touch.
Most of the items in our open shelving unit we use consistently, the only downside is you have to keep it neat & tidy:).
These chambray frayed napkins are also from Target, I bought a bunch. I have a thing for pillows and napkins. They both are easy ways to refresh a space without breaking the budget.
The light fixture is from Birch Lane, the round shape makes it feel modern and the worn wood makes it feel rustic, the perfect combination.
Glass bottles always remind me of summer, I have different demi-johns scattered around the house. You can pick these up at flea markets or yard sales pretty inexpensively.
This rattan settee is vintage and has been a little roughed up by my wheaten terriers though the years, it used to sit by the window in our old house, where they would be the neighborhood watch:). The faux fur is soft and hides the worn marks, plus I love the texture it gives even in the summer.
My backyard recently got a BIG makeover, you won’t believe the before and afters. I enjoyed giving this space a fun update for summer in the recent patio challenge, now if it could just get warm!
One of my favorite projects out here was the DIY Light Poles which are incredible at night!
Here is my son Jack’s Modern Coastal Bedroom which also had a full reveal recently.
This is an iPhone picture believe it or not, you can find the tutorial HERE.
To continue the tour head on over to my friend Lucy’s house at Craftberry Bush, you will not be disappointed.
Have a beautiful day!
