Lowe’s Spring Makeover-Outdoor Oasis
Hi friends! I am so excited to finally be sharing the Lowe’s Spring Makeover BIG Reveal with you today!! I went 2 weekends ago, to a suburb outside of Hartford, CT and what a blast it was! Just to recap about 6 weeks ago Lowe’s asked for anyone living in one of the 10 hardest hit cities with winter weather to submit their home for a spring makeover. You can read more HERE. After reading through the many deserving homeowners and their stories in Hartford {I wish I could have picked each & everyone of them} I selected Amanda & Keith.
There was something that resonated with me as I read their story. Hearing about their harsh winter in their first home and Amanda’s back story of the long years of schooling, dedication & loans it took to land her dream job as a NICU nurse and then try to balance that with homeownership. I immediately felt connected to them, so I was thrilled to be able to help them create an outdoor area they could enjoy with family & friends for years to come.
The makeover was divided into 2 areas, the small deck off the back door and the long & slender patio. These are the before shots. The moment I knew it was them, my wheels were turning. I knew that the patio was staying as the deck is affixed to it, so then it was trying to balance the design with how we could make it more visually appealing.
THE BEFORES…
THE PLAN…
stain the deck
powerwash the patio
create a hedge along the back of the patio
redo the stone stairs
add landscaping around the patio
paint back door
replace the light
create DIY outdoor lighting
work within the small areas to give them the most seating
build a container garden
give them an herb garden
add herbs, flowers and tropical plants
give them a grill & fire pit
create a bar for easy outdoor entertaining
give extra storage on the deck
We had the Lowe’s volunteers for one full day & they were AMAZING!!! They had a true can do attitude & every bump in the road was met with “lets do it!” It was SO hot & they never complained once, they were happy to be there. Jessica, the assistant store manger stayed late and Roger ended up building them a container garden from scratch, wow, right?!
Bre & Amanda chatting about house stuff :). I am so grateful she came to help me with this amazing project! We worked together so seamlessly and she is just as sweet & talented in person.
My goal was to make these small spaces feel inviting and comfortable. Knowing my time frame, that the homeowners didn’t want to block the view of their beautiful backyard & that we only had the volunteers for one day, I decided to focus on making each area feel clean & fresh and give them outdoor rooms that felt purposeful and stylish. Adding the grass hedge along the back of the patio, would make the space feel private without loosing the view and the white hydrangea border would tie in the crisp white coastal feel of the deck.
Are you ready to see the transformation?! Remember the before?
Welcome to Amanda & Keith’s outdoor oasis!!!
Any good makeover story has a few bumps in the road, so to keep with the plan of giving these deserving homeowners a round coffee table we improvised. We took this large wood barrel planter, added casters and a large tray and viola, extra storage.
One of the things Amanda & Keith asked for was outside lighting, so we created these DIY light poles to flank the outer edge of the patio. It came out beautiful & I look forward to sharing this project in the next few weeks.
I feel incredibly blessed to have been a part of this project!!!
One last time…

Even though we had some obstacles to overcome, I am so thrilled with this makeover and most importantly-the homeowner’s are over the moon in love with it too. A BIG thank you to Lowe’s and all of the wonderful volunteers that helped transform this tired space into a casual, coastal outdoor oasis!! It just goes to show you that any small space has potential.
These opinions and images are my own and this is a paid sponsored post by Lowe’s.

So stunning! Amazing job!
Amazing transformation! Staining the deck white and painting the backdoor alone made such a huge difference.
AH-MAZ-ING! Beautiful space that I know they will enjoy your years to come. May I ask what you used to hold up the strands of lights? Are they just 2×4 or similar cemented in ground?
Elegant and beautiful. How can you do it?
it’s beautiful, but one question, why would you face the sectional facing the house instead of the beautiful backyard?
So beautiful love it. Please let me know did you get the white ceramic tables at lowes too? Thanks Kelly
How did you make the tray for the storage ottoman? I absolutely love your transformation.
