Hi there friends! You have been asking for a while and today I am sharing the details on how we (Robert + I) designed and built a DIY custom wall unit for the BHG makeover. If you aren’t familiar, I teamed up with Rebuilding Together to give a deserving homeowner (Karen) a FULL room makeover with a feature in the Oct 2017 issue of BHG. This built-in was a true labor of love for my PIC (partner in crime). I remember showing up to his house over a year ago on a cold, fall day with this sketch up of the custom built-in I had in mind. It was a shameful rendering but he got it, right away. I knew then that we would make a great team (and we did). Not one time did Robert say no, I don’t thing so or can’t be done. And let me tell you, we hit a lot of snags and set backs. You can tell by the in progress shots below how we poured our heart and soul into this project. The biggest thank you to Lowe’s!!! They are taking the top 10 and producing them under a “Blogger Collection.” I would love this opportunity more than you know, it would be a dream come true to say the least. This rug challenge has really got me thinking about desire, dreams, humility, gratitude & grace and taking my own advice.
Today is the day! I am finally revealing Jack’s Modern Coastal Bedroom, the before & afters and all of the sources! It has been a few months in the making so I am super excited to share this makeover with all of you, mostly because I LOVE how it turned out. Before his space lacked, in every sense of the word. We kept a queen size bed in his room for “company” but rarely used it for such. The walls were blah and it was very uninspiring. As Jack got older I really wanted a space that felt creative and fun. A place he could get away and read or play his Lego’s. I also wanted it to reflect the things he loves, like the ocean and sea creatures, mostly sharks:).
As most of you know I have been busy working on my boys rooms. It seems like these makeovers have taken me months, I have waited so long to do these rooms that I want to do it right. I don’t like to rush design, that is when I make mistakes. Plus, it is way more fun to be deliberate about the things you plan, choose and eventually select. For me the hunt is my idea of a good time, anyone else? So you can imagine my excitement when I found these stunning & playful whale prints below from Minted. Since I was/am going for a modern coastal look in Jack’s room I loved the abstract nature of these watercolor prints. I can just picture these in a beach house that has a rustic, modern aesthetic, can’t you? In any case they are just perfect, so I had to share.
