Haven, Blogging Perspective + 6 Simple Boho Picnic Ideas

I am off to Haven tomorrow so I thought I would pop in before I left. This is my 2nd year going and I am super excited. For anyone who isn’t familiar with this blogging conference, its focus is DIY and decorating & let me just say this is such an amazing experience if you are a blogger whose focus is that. The nice thing is everyone is in the same genre, so there is so much to talk about, blog goals, techniques, SEO, decorating, DIY but for me the best part are those little conversations I get to have with friends old and new that make me feel connected and a part of something much bigger.

Bookcase Styling: Easy Tips + Tricks

Hello! Brooke from Nesting with Grace here. I have a confession, I am slightly obsessed with bookcases. I love to style them, just like Legos are to a little boy. I have had some practice over the years and learned a lot from working in a design store where we were always rearranging and putting out new product to replace sold items. I also used to do the managing of the designers in the showroom and styling a bookcase does not come natural to all designers. You are not alone if it is hard. Here are some examples and tips that I have learned over the years. Applying these tips will make you love your bookcase.

Finding Balance + Being Present

Today is the last day of school for my boys and it feels bittersweet. It has been a great year and although I do know all good things must come to an end, I guess a part of me doesn’t want to fully recognize that they are growing up and getting bigger. It’s all going by too fast. I am trying to hold on so tight to this time together because I want to always remember the pure joy I feel. I have written so often how important it is for me to “be present” because I know from the personal experience of loss that these small moments of time are such a gift.

DIY Modern Coastal Art-Using An IPhone Picture

The beach is our happy place so when designing Jack’s room I knew I wanted a modern coastal feel and since he LOVES ocean life it was a win, win for both of us. I am not much of a theme person when it comes to design but I did want to bring in coastal elements in a modern way, yet still have it be fun & playful for Jack, who just turned 6. I also wanted it to be meaningful and a great way to do this is by adding DIY art. I saw THIS print and knew I could create something myself that had significance for our family. I started scrolling down my iPhone pictures from last summer, looking for the right seascape and colors & bingo, I found it-the one. I knew it would be perfect for my DIY Modern Coastal Print.
Are you ready to make some DIY art? This entire process is SO easy! I kid you not, if I can do it, then so can you! Here is how to create your own modern coastal print….

Chippendale Chairs + A Connection To The Past

When I was little I remember going to my Nan & Grandpa’s house and always feeling right at home. My grandmother, lovingly referred to as “Nanny” had impeccable taste all around. She was always dressed to the T and her independent spirit was always way ahead of her time. Her home reflected her boldness for life as it was layered in pieces from their travels, along with an eclectic mix of color & styles. I recently found out that she was actually a DIYer , she was famous for stripping a piece of furniture and making homemade pasta all in one day. This was pretty cool to hear, I often wish I could know her back then, I bet we would have…
