No Fail Way To Pick The Perfect Paint Color + Palette

Paint and color are at the forefront of every homeowner’s (or renter’s) mind, especially when it comes time to decorate. Yet, it seems to be the most difficult to narrow down and create a color palette. One reason is that there are so many choices. You can get caught up fast on Colortok and make countless unnecessary detours on social media and Pinterest. So, I’m going to make it super easy for you so you can have a color guide (and plan) for all your decorating projects, from wall color to drapes and pillows.

First, you’ll need to find an inspiration piece. It can be art, a rug, or a textile. You will pin and save the image to your computer or phone. Then, you will upload it to the Color Snap tool.

Circles will appear on the image. Move the circles around the hover around the colors you like. Once you find a color, use the + sign to add it to the color palette under the image. They let you select 8 colors, but if you find colors you like better, you can hit the trash symbol on the color itself and then add another.

You can also click the swatch symbol next to a color to see more variations and complementary colors.

Convinced yet? I mean, come on, it doesn’t get any easier than this. You don’t have to stay faithful to this palette, but it’s a great guide if you find yourself directionless with color. It basically sets you on a clear path when it comes time to make decisions. A little tip: create an album on your phone and save it there. When you’re shopping, you can pull it up and save time and money!

In case you’re wondering, I found the butterfly art at Barnes & Noble. They have a stand of cool vintage-looking posters in stationery. The best part, it was $11! Here’s how it looks in my office/den. I’ll probably leave it up until summer and then bring it back out in the fall.
