Simple Woodland Inspired Holiday Terrarium Tablescape
Hi there friends! I am so excited to be joining this incredible Christmas Tablescape Tour, hosted by my good friend Alicia from A Burst of Beautiful. This tour includes 10 beautiful dining spaces, packed full of our favorite holiday table ideas and inspiration. Whether you have a designated dining room or a small eat in nook, this post has something for everyone.
In years past I have gone all out with my Christmas dining table but this year is the first year without an actual dining room (I made it a den) so I thought I would show you how I created an easy Woodland Inspired Terrarium Tablescape that is simple, yet festive. You can catch the video tutorial HERE, it’s from a Rachael Ray segment that aired a few weeks ago.
I bought 2 glass cylinder vases from Target, one small and one large. I like the modern look of an actual cylinder but you can use an glass container you would like.
I layered 2 shades of moss to resemble a forest ground and added some woodland creatures. I used a cute deer family from Target, they are new this year right near the ornaments. I also bought a few white animals from Michaels. Don’t be afraid to mix and match.
I used a variety of vintage & new bottle brush trees. The owl terrarium I set some branches in the container below and sprinkled both with snow. You want to be able to see the depth of the different layers so use it sparingly.
I set them on a round cutting board, also from Target and added some fresh eucalyptus.
I made a ton of these for around the house. It is also a great family friendly project. Jack loved helping with these. They can also customize them by adding their favorite toys and/or Lego people. That was a big hit here.
The open shelving I kept with that same vibe by adding fresh greenery, rustic/organic elements and woodland touches. We also love to make sugar cookies, as my mom did with me during the holiday season. My cookie cutter collection has grown leaps and bounds so I thought it might be fun to display some. These are from Target as well.
Be sure to think outside the box with some of these items you find in your favorite stores. Tip-ornaments can make great holiday accessories and they are usually a bit smaller than some of the regular accessories you will find this time of year so it makes for great height balance as well as dimensional contrast. All things that make for a great tablescape and/or vignette.
