Through the years I have modified my decor goals when decorating seasonally. I have learned that small changes can make a big impact, while saving you time and money. Who doesn’t love that?!

Tip #1

Refresh your color palette by adding to what you already have. I do this by pulling out different hues from a pattern I am using or piece of art. My main hues are neutrals, black and indigo. By adding mauve and blush tones I have just updated the color palette without too much effort.

Tip #2

Change out one or 2 pieces of art in your room. The easiest way to do this is with your frames. You can pop in prints, sayings, your children’s school projects or something you painted yourself on a small, flat canvas. I have open shelving in my den, so this is a great place to show off new artwork.

Tip #3

Another trick, buying pillow covers in your palette range gives you options when decorating seasonally. I store them in my linen closet and change them out often. I even interchange them from room to room. This saves you money in the long run.

Tip #4

Add color and texture through your accessories. Again pulling from the piece of art I used in my holiday tour I was able to give a fresh vibe without switching out everything. Vases, pots, sculptural elements and baskets are a great way to give that pop. Quick tip, shop your house. If you buy accessories that flow from room to room and reflect your design aesthetic then this part should feel achievable.

Tip #5

Flowers and plants make a space come to life, especially during this season. I will admit, I am not a huge flower person but I do love plants. They are like books, you can never have too many. I mix faux with real, you really can’t tell the difference these days. I buy them at the grocery store, Lowe’s, Home Depot and my local nursery. I also bring my large tropicals inside after summer, so we are currently packed but it feels cozy.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more about plants Jen – they just bring so much life to a room! And you seem to have a wonderful green thumb (wish I didn’t kill every houseplant I ever bought, haha!)

And the mauve pillow looks so pretty! It’s amazing how much that one color change transformed the whole space!

  2. I totally agree with you. having a fresh coat of paint and changing cushion covers completely changes the look… And to add some new accessories and exchanging the places of some items… gives it a totally new look.
Also adding plants is my favorite! I love indoor plants!!

  3. I love your tips about changing out your art work and frames – it’s such an easy way to update for the seasons. I also love swapping out table decor as well. Hard to feel very spring like with the snow we just got but I’m looking forward to warmer weather and more spring like details.

  4. Pretty sure you meant “seem”, not “seam”, but good suggestions, none the less.
