Coastal Cottagecore Inspo-Aunt Lil’s Beach House

Let’s get back to some design inspo, shall we? How about specifically Coastal Cottagecore? Think lazy days playing games, reading on the porch with a soft sea breeze blowing through your hair. Or how about picking a book from the moody library on a rainy day, all while hearing the gentle waves crash outside and the smell of salt water through the screens. Who’s in? Who wants to experience what summer has to offer in Southold at Aunt Lil’s?

There are a few elements to keep in mind with coastal cottagecore. The first being the emphasis on nature, bringing the outdoors in, and being one with the coastal landscape. The use of organic textures like linen, sisal, rattan, and wicker adds warm layers. The color palette can be muted earthy tones, Americana tones, or even bolder hues. What makes the palette work is that it is created with intention, say, maybe from an old family quilt, a painting found at a yard sale (or maybe the attic), or a rug that looks old but is new.

With this style, there is an emphasis on cozy and casual. There’s no worry about wet furniture or sand on the floor because lived-in and loved is part of the charm. This style encourages personal style, blending old, new, found, and inherited elements.

There are plush cushions, soft textiles, and comfortable furnishings. Florals, stripes, gingham, matelasse, knit, and linen all work together cohesively, without rules. The art is a mix of vintage, handmade, and invested.

The woods are warm and/or rich, often nicked and tattered, making them feel worn by the elements. This aesthetic blends the charm of cottage living with the relaxed coastal ambiance.
