DIY Linen Driftwood Pumpkins

Happy Tuesday!
I hope all of you had a nice weekend:).
We had an awesome day at the beach
on Saturday.
The boys spent the day swimming,
searching for shells & playing in the sand.
My heart & head is still in summerland,
can anyone relate?
Being that my mind is stuck
in summer,
I am just now getting started
with my Fall Decorating:).
So, I thought I would share some
fall inspiration
&
a fun and easy DIY project.
Decorating for the season
 can become costly,
especially if you are like me,
wanting real, natural & organic looking everything.
Well, this project is beautiful & cheap.
Each pumpkin costs under a dollar to make,
$.60 to be exact.
Pretty good, right?
Linen Driftwood Pumpkins
DIY Dfriftwood Linen Pumpkins-City Farmhouse
What you will need for each one
a roll of toilet paper
4 frayed strips of linen fabric that measure 2″ x 54″
1 piece of driftwood
glue gun(optional)
\

Wrap & tuck the fabric strips tightly all the way around.
The softer the paper the better,
so you can mold the paper as you go,
it will start to take the “pumpkin” shape.
When you start of new strip, just tuck it into the old one.
I found that if you skip a space when you are wrapping
& then go back to fill it,
it looks better, more even.
 To fray the edges,
just pull the unwanted strings off the edges of the fabric
& trim with a scissor.
When I was done wrapping the linen,
I wedged the driftwood into the opening,
you can use a glue gun to make it more permanent.
These Linen Pumpkins will be perfect on my mantle.
I am excited to show you more soon:).
I have been searching high & low for some great
ideas & inspiration for fall.
There have been plenty of late nights:)
 with Pintrest lately.

FYI,
you can use any fabric for this project,
burlap, cotton, duck,
a reader suggested a drop cloth, which is perfect too.
This project is easy, trust me:).
Happy Fall Decorating!!!

  1. Jen,

Thanks again for taking the time to chat. You were a big help and I really appreciate it.

These pumpkins are adorable! I don’t happen to have any frayed linen, do you think if I bought a drop cloth I might be able to use the fabric from that, or do you think it would be too stiff?

    Thanks,
    Maureen

  2. Jen…I’m in love with these little pumpkins! I have lots of TP and linen…I’m heading out today to collect me some driftwood! Good thing I’m coastal!
Thank you for this great, budget minded idea! I had to share it this morning on FB…too fun not to share!

  3. That’s genius!! Jen. Looking at the finished project you can never guess that’s t.p. underneath. I wonder if any other fabric would work? So cute…happy fall decorating. Julie N.

  4. Hi Maureen & Julie,
Thanks for the kind compliments:). You can use any fabric, burlap, cotton, duck, just be sure it isn’t too heavy or else you may loose the flexibility to mold into the shape. A drop cloth would def. work:). Have fun! Jen

  5. These are gorgeous!! I first became familiar with TP pumpkins when my boys brought them home from preschool. Such a fantastic idea! I made a few more myself with upcycled sweater pieces and sticks from the backyard. Your take on it with STRIPS of fabric and driftwood is absolutely stunning. Great job! I pinned this
    : )

  6. I am so making these for fall and some for my friends too 🙂 Now, where in land locked Calgary am I going to find driftwood???? ;-(

  7. Love these…grandson made them at school with orange patterned cotton fabric & the stem was a tightly rolled up brown paper lunch sack. Very cute!

  8. These are so cute. Do you use 4 strips of fabric per pumpkin or does that make four pumpkins? I am gonna host a craft party for some friends and want to make sure I have enough fabric for everyone to make three each. Thanks so much!
