Mini Moss Wreaths-The Perfect Christmas Craft

Let’s make Mini Moss Wreaths; they are truly the perfect Christmas craft. But first, a quick story because honesty and vulnerability fosters connection. And maybe you’re feeling something similar. Recently, I’ve felt a little stuck. This time of year, as a design blogger, is hectic, but then throw in book marketing, and I’m officially overwhelmed. And when you’re a creative, being overwhelmed is the kiss of death. All weekend, I tried to come up with a clever mini-wreath to make from shower curtain rings for the next episode of #whatwoulddahliamake. But nothing came to mind. I scoured the house and even tested a few awful options. At the end of the day, I was putting too much pressure on myself to reinvent the wheel or come up with something extraordinary.

“Good things come to those who are patient,” as my mother would say. As I sat there on my crafting couch, ready to scream or cry, not sure which, I spotted a gorgeous texture from across the room. It was moss, peeking out of the side of my Christmas terrarium. I knew in that moment I’d hit the mother load. And when I wrapped a few pieces I had left around it, BINGO!

Of course, I had to run out and get more when I was trying so hard this year to use what I have. But this purchase was so worth it. I made a bunch, which I’ll use for holiday ornaments, a fun garland, gift tags, and place cards. For this easy DIY, you’ll need moss clumps (not sheets), a glue gun, pretty ribbon, and plastic shower curtain rings. Please take a look below for the simple process.

Even though I persevered, I didn’t like the feeling of if this, then that. Like if I didn’t come up with an out-of-the-box idea, then I was a has-been. On my walk yesterday, I gained some clarity & perspective on my creative spiral. At the end of the day, maybe extraordinary is overrated. There is so much pressure on everyone to overperform, outdo, and reinvent the wheel; it’s exhausting. Possibly, the peace lies in embracing the ordinary with a few sparks here and there that can be quantified. If I hadn’t thought of something unique or different on Sunday, I’d still be the same creative person I’ve always been. Why it felt so vital to my worth, I’ll never know. But I do think the culture we’re currently embedded in plays a BIG role!
