DIY $12 Bohemian Pillow
Hello City Farmhouse readers, Brooke here from Nesting with Grace. I am back with a easy pillow DIY project. This cost me less than $12 and took me about 20 minutes to complete. Just a 2×3 rag rug, yarn, batting and a sewing needle and you can complete this project.
I found this rug at my local Home Goods store for $9. I have always loved these bohemian looking rag rugs. They just don’t really hold up too well in major traffic areas. I thought, how great this would be as a pillow. It is pretty thick and I almost put it back thinking my sewing machine would fall apart if I tried to sew this into a pillow. Then I noticed how it has natural separation from the different materials and that would be an easy spot to sew through.
The pillow also reminded me of my Anthropologie pillow that I switch out on my bed and featured in my Christmas home tour. This size of pillow is perfect on a bed and fills up the space nicely without cluttering it with a lot of little pillows.
I picked up the least expensive yarn for $2 and some plastic yarn needles for around $1, both from my local craft store.
I simply stitched where there was a hole or separation in the rug and stitched it shut.
I stitched one end shut where the fringe was. Then I stuffed it with some pillow batting and stitched the other side shut. I actually cut into an old pillow that we weren’t using and stole the batting. I prefer down fills for pillows but the fiber worked perfect for this type of pillow that is pretty loosely stitched shut.
I love how it turned out and for about $12 it makes a pretty big statement and adds some needed color.
I love how it ties in my new antique rug. I am sure I will move it around my house. Two would look great on a daybed. Or one in the center of a bed. You won’t look at those 2×3 rugs the same anymore!
