A Resort That Feels Like You’re in a Nancy Meyers Movie
It’s officially summer, and with that comes the urge to travel. So, if you’re looking for an East Coast getaway that feels like you’ve stepped back in time, maybe to the fifties to Kellerman’s. Or perhaps you’re looking for a getaway that feels like a European vacation or simply an island resort that feels like you’ve stepped into a Nancy Meyers Movie, then this post is for you!
I found the NICEST resort on the East Coast. It’s located on Shelter Island, NY, and is called The Pridwin. It’s been around forever but recently was taken over by Cape Resorts. When they took over, Brown Hall Design gave it a complete makeover. Walking in, you feel like you’ve stepped onto a Nancy Meyers movie set. They did such a fantastic job merging the past with the present.
If you aren’t familiar with Long Island, it runs parallel to Connecticut. It looks like a fish with two fins on the very ends; one fin is the North Fork (Southold, Greenport Mattituck), and the other is the South Fork (The Hamptons). You can take a ferry from New London, CT, to Orient Point, drive to Greenport, and take a ferry there. Or you can take a quick ride from Sag Harbor on the Hamptons side.
A few things that set this place apart. The customer service is excellent. You feel a part of their family. They go above and beyond, no matter who you are. The little things matter when you spend money on a place like this. Things like warm smiles, fresh coffee in the morning, asking if you need anything, a fridge stocked with complimentary drinks and snacks, a boat ride around the island included with your stay, bikes for use without a charge, and no resort fee. And just look at that pool; it’s heated, by the way.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, and there are many areas where you can sit and enjoy the view! I mentioned in my last reel that this place makes you want to move here and/or write a book about it. I’m a yes for both! But I’d settle for a summer here or at least a few more visits.
The decor is awe-inspiring. With each visit, I find something new to swoon over. I love the lights above the built-ins, the wallpaper, and the wall decor that feels storied and connected to the last.
The style is classic with a twist, like the Nancy Meyers aesthetic you see all over TikTok and Instagram.
This shot below makes it feel like a Catskill resort, but honestly, you could be anywhere here. It’s such a blissful break from life.
If you have a family, you can rent one of the cottages—some allow dogs! They have also been beautifully updated!
The decor has so much to love, from the life preserver to the green rattan barstools and teak seating outside. The bar is operational, and the pool service provides food and drinks during the day.
Another swoon-worthy space with the lighting, choice of textiles, and finishes set against a white canvas. Their breakfast is one of the best I’ve ever had!
As a designer myself, I had to point out the seating below. How cute are these rattan chairs with French tufted ticking cushions? I love them paired with the green; what a cool area to hang out with a drink and listen to music.
This is us enjoying coffee and the fantastic water view. Happy 21 years of marriage to us! As I mentioned, you get a complimentary boat ride through the harbor where the Rob Lowe movie Masquerade was made. On our ride, we passed Eminem’s old house, which was surprisingly traditional.
Below, they framed an old bill from the eighties, which was another cool touch. Everywhere you look are old photos and pieces from the past.
Like most posts, these are my opinions about this resort. We’ve stayed overnight twice, and both greatly exceeded my expectations. Please read reviews in addition to mine so you have all the information you can.
