My Built-Ins Are Getting A Makeover

Hi there friends! Thank you all for your amazing insight about my den walls and paint colors. Once I finish the art for the room I think the choice will be more clear. I will definitely keep you posted. Today I wanted talk about my built-ins, they are also getting a little makeover!

When we moved in 6 years ago there was nothing there, just an open space where the builder/owners would have added the shelving but didn’t get around to it. My brother-in-law, who is an amazing carpenter my nice enough to built them for me. At the time, I loved the idea of a simple skirt instead of doors and did so for about a year. But you know, there are always so many other projects to tackle, plus when it was the dining room you could barely see it. Well now there is a full, open view to this beautiful architectural detail and I want it to feel more tailored. I am thinking of adding doors and creating a cool detail on the front of them or making it completely open with some sleek & rustic storage.

Whatever I decide, I would also like to add a rolling ladder.  I have loved rolling library ladders since I was old enough to dream of my first home. This oldie but goodie adds a ton of character to a space as well as function and they aren’t just for libraries anymore, you can read more HERE.

  1. Can hardly wait to see how you do your shelves, things can always use some updating, keep your room being fresh. I sure so admire your particular style Jen. So much appealed and still does and am not easily convinced, your style is very comfy, welcoming and just you.
    Have great rest of weekend

  2. I also love ladders & libraries – so I had my husband build book shelves in my den many years ago – and just recently – I got around to having him make a ladder – which is something I always wanted – it looks GREAT!
