Ikea Hack-DIY Plaid Pillows{from a throw}

Happy Thursday!

I love wool & plaid, especially in the winter,

it gives a cozy, warm & rustic feel.

When I began planning for the holidays a few months ago,

I knew I NEEDED  some {wool-plaid} pillows for my rustic-glam thing I had envisioned:).

I looked high & low for some reasonable & neutral ones but

nada-nothing.

So…I got creative after finding the perfect throw.

I thought huh…

I can get 3-18″ x 18″ pillows {+ a few ornaments} from 1 throw for 19.99 from IKEA.

jackpot!

I did buy the feather inserts from Pottery Barn Outlet{love} but still,

way under budget!

You can do it too, it is easy…..

I used THIS throw from IKEA  it was 47″ x 71″.

Tip-Use your finished edges for the openings for your envelope back.

From 1-18.5″ cut going across,

I got 1 full square in the middle {which is the front}

&

2 halves with a finished edge {on either side} for the envelope backs{see step #6 below}.

My cuts where 18.5″ x 18.5″ for the fronts

& I cut 2- 18.5″ x 11 with the finished edges for the envelope backs.

This is a big time saver.

  1. I love the pillows!! The ornaments turned out too cute!! I can’t believe it is made out of a blanket. I’m always searching for the perfect pillows and can never seem to find just what I want. Great idea!! Love them!!

    1. Thank you Julia!!! You are so sweet! Your home looks so beautiful decorated for the holidays! Merry Christmas friend!

  2. I love your pillows so much, they’re great, look like a soft texture, great colors to go anywhere.
    Now I’ll be looking at throws on sale much differently. Great idea using the throw instead of trying to buy yardage. I love colors of your plaid, would go in any room for winter coziness. WE don’t have an IKEA close by and I hate paying for s&h.
    I have some wool yardage I’ve had for years so think it’ll be getting some use finally. Maybe have enuf to make two pillow covers out of each piece of yardage, green and brown. Plus I have blue check and red check flannel which will make nice cozy pillow covers. We have lots of winter ahead of us yet.
    You know how you showed your awesome incredible red metal tray from Target? I got same tray today at Target for 1/2 off then 5% off with store debit card. They had 3 trays left so I grabbed that baby quick. Hadn’t planned on spending money I had on a tray but just couldn’t pass it up even tho I did try to convince myself I didn’t need it. Hubs had a few words about another tray I didn’t need but I ignored him this time. The tray is a great size. Can hardly wait to do some styling with it.
    Happy happy days, have fun.

  3. I identify with your style; it makes me feel at home. I want to locate those alphabet cards like the j as clipped to the wee tree. Where can I find them?
